Premier 1 Goalkeeping is a specialised goalkeeping company that focuses on the role of the goalkeeper in a progressive manner, to develop the goalkeeper's game as the challenges increase over time.
Our focus is not just to develop someone that can save the ball, but someone that can perform at their optimum levels on a consistent basis, making high level performances the pinnacle of what the goalkeeper achieves, regardless of their current level.
We look at how the player moves, their biomechanics, we develop their athleticism to be able to better cope we the demands of their environment during the game. We promote a healthy open mindset, everything is achievable with the right amount of effort applied in the right direction.
"Excellent sessions week in week out. Not only teaches great goalkeeping methods, but makes it fun and enjoyable. Recently started 1:2:1 sessions and couldn't believe the knowledge and information Steve has to offer. My son has come on leaps and bounds with the knowledge that has been passed on"
The curriculum produces in stages, but we revisit areas often through the year to strengthen positive habits and also to introduce them to new attendees
The 44 week curriculum runs from the start of September to the end of July, mirroring the school year. We then have a 6 week pre-season program during the summer holidays.
Following the school terms, we divide the curriculum into three blocks, each with a specific focus. During these blocks we look at age-appropriate content that the goalkeeper is going to need in their armoury; looking at the fundamental skills required and how and when to apply them. We do not simply develop shot-stoppers, but a well-rounded goalkeeper that understands the demands of their environment and knows how to proactively solve problems that the game may throw at them. We help all of our players not simply within the technical aspect of their game, but also with tactical awareness in and out of possession. We look into the psychology needed and various social constructs to enable the role that your child is likely to play.
We take pride in what we deliver and will always work in the interest of developing a fully-rounded goalkeeper for the demands of the game of football in its evolving construct.
UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER SPORTS STADIUM
During the infancy of his GK coaching career, Steve’s style and knowledge was formed by working with and watching top level GK Coaches such as Dan Gaspar (former Portugal National GK Coach), Claudio Tafferel (World Cup Winner & Current Brazil GK Coach), Maarten Arts (Former FC Utrecht & Danish U21 GK Coach). Possibly the greatest impact was with Frans Hoek (Former Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United & Dutch National GK Coach)
With this early influence, Steve always questions what's the best way of doing something, in search of a better method. Since this time, Steve has gone on to work at Salisbury City FC (then National League), Havant & Waterlooville FC (National League South), Eastleigh (National League) as first Team GK Coach. In addition to this, he was Academy Goalkeeper Coach at Portsmouth FC U9-U16s and AFC Bournemouth Head of Academy Goalkeeping U7-U23s, where he often assisted the first Team GK coach also. Steve has had four Goalkeepers he worked with to go on and be selected for England National sides at varying ages.
He is now the Managing Director of Premier 1 Goalkeeping & Founder of Premier 11 Coaching.
"Steve is a great coach and easy to talk to. He is also brilliant at his job and his honest and frank personality is a bonus too. Thanks to all the coaches and the other players, for helping to make a very happy 10 year old 'keeper"
